I followed the suggestion to hold the Bluetooth button down but and got the same message above about not being able to link for supported or invalid settings.I went into System Preferences-Bluetooth-Devices and deleted the entry for my mouse. Then clicked okay to setup a new device, let the search start, then turn on the mouse and pressed the bluetooth button until it went red. It was then identified and I asked it to link. It worked!I upgraded from 10.3 so perhaps the jump was too far for the link to remain secure/paired.
Deleting the entry appeared to allow the link to be created cleanly.Good luck! I just had this same problem - microsoft bluetooth notebook mouse 5000 not recognized by my macbook running 10.6.7 now. I read this group of postings, and tried what I probably should have tried all along. 1) turn off bluetooth on the macbook and mouse. 2) turn on the mouse, and press the button to make it discoverable (alternating red/green blinks from the light on top) 3) turn on macbook bluetooth and go to 'setup bluetooth device' and it found the mouse fine and works great. (sorry for the partial post above - sent accidentally).
I went through many of the same frustrations as the members above.my mouse had been working after the upgrade and then when I set up for a presentation with a room full of teachers it wouldn't connect. I replaced batteries, etc. So I resorted to the pad. When I got home i checked the batteries and tried to reconnect following all the 'normal' steps until I read the comment above about removing the existing device in the bluetooth preferences. Once I did that - the 5000 connected like a champ! This is the one mouse that I have really appreciated, especially since both of the USB ports are side by side and don't allow for multiple USB connections from my 'wide' cellular USB card.

I have the same problem as you, but my Win 7 is 32 bits instead of 64. My Windows also crashed with a blue screen and the mouse (Thinkpad Bluetooth Laser Mouse) refused to work afterward. What I did is that when I tried pairing, instead of clicking on to the device right away (you will end up waiting indefinitely if you do so, I'm afraid), I right clicked on the device and chose Properties- not Add The Device. A small window will open with heading like 'Bluetooth services' beow it will be a line that says 'Drivers for keyboard and mice, etc' just tick the box and press OK or apply, the device will pair right-away. In my case, it took quite a while to obtain the driver from Microsoft.so I skipped the waiting (there's an option to skip the wait).

Right after I skipped it, the driver is installed and the mouse functioned perfectly.I hope that I could help in some way. Not sure how one is expected to use a quoted reply when the replyu i s not visually distinct from the quoted part!Hi,You may try the steps listed in the below link: Resolve Bluetooth mouse or keyboard failure to function:None of these seem to apply. I just cannot reconnect the device. The mouse is listed under devices. I am using a laptop with built-in bluetooth and I don't have a separate receiver so I cannot try it on another computerbecause I don't have another one with Bluetooth built in. I have all the latest updates installed. I have tried re-installing the bluetooth stack using both the Windows default and the Broadcom installer. Neither worked.Method 4 instructions don't make any sense.
I'm assuming it's talking about Control Panel (doesn';t say so). There is no Bluetooth Devices under Hardware and Sound.
(And I have never had anything show up there even whenit was working properly.) Add Bluethooth Device doesn't find it whether it is in discovery mode or not.I have not found a way to delete the Mouse 5000 entry under Devices and Printers other than using the Device Manager. Right-click only gives me the choices: Open, Mouse Setting, Troubleshoot (useless!), PropertiesAlso try resynchronizing your device with the receiver Troubleshoot response failures in wireless keyboard or mouse:This doesn't apply as it is for 'wireless, not Bluetooth'. I have been able to get the Notebook Mouse 5000 to be recognized by Windows 7, but Intellipoint 8.2 refuses to acknowledge that the mouse exists. What is wrong here?
