(32 or 64 bit) ' because it is not correct, it should read ' Windows update is supposed to install the versionthat is compatible with your system. (32 or 64 bit) but doesn't' as I have windows update set at 'Default' the recommended setting. Download and install updates automatically. Well my computer is a 64 bit CPU and windows update installed the 32 bit versionof IE 10.
The fact that Internet Explorer any version has always been very slow and constantly crashing has made me stop using it except for 'official' Microsoft tasks. I use Chrome as my default browser because it is a much faster and way more stablebrowser so I didn't even notice that IE had been upgraded from v9 to v10 until my websites I visit regularly stopped loading and I got only a white screen. I am trying to fix this Microsoft Error when I came across this misleading answer. Everyone shouldbe warned that no matter what version of windows you run, you should never let it make unsupervised decisions for your computer. The best setting is Download updates but let me choose when to install them! This is best because windows update has on many occasions installedthe incorrect updates for my system all the way back to Windows 95 and now it still does this in Win 7.
At least in this setting you are able to check the updates before they are installed and screw up your computer. As I have found updates meant for Vistaon my XP comp, and XP updates on my win 7 comp. Having the wrong updates installed can cause some serious issues, especially when they can't be removed!
A word of caution that I have not seen anyone give is NEVER TRUST MICROSOFT TO MAKE THE CORRECT DECISIONCONCERNING YOUR COMPUTER. They will not be there to fix it when they make a mistake, that they leave to you.
This statement is also untrue, as it will not only install it, It will install without any warning or notification what so ever!
